Photo upload for Global Passport Seva (GPSP 2.0)
The requirements
From the GPSP 2.0 notice published by Indian missions:
- Close-up of the head and top of the shoulders, with the face taking up 80–85% of the photograph.
- Colour, 630 × 810 pixels.
- White background.
- Looking directly at the camera, eyes open and clearly visible, mouth closed, natural expression.
- Uniform lighting, natural skin tones, no shadows, no flash reflections, no red-eye.
- Taken from about 1.5 metres away, not too close, and not blurred.
- Full head from top of hair to bottom of chin, centred and not tilted. Glasses off to avoid reflections.
- Head coverings only for religious reasons, with the facial features clearly shown.
- Photos should be unaltered by computer software.
Step by step
- Take a photo in good daylight, facing a window, ideally with someone else holding the phone at eye level about 1.5 m away. Full tips here.
- Make it 630 × 810 px with a white background. PersonPhoto does this from a selfie or an upload, and shows a preview first.
- If your mission asks for the face to fill 80–85% of the photo, open Adjust framing → Size in PersonPhoto and make your head larger until it does.
- Check the result against the list above: eyes open, mouth closed, no glare, nothing cut off.
- Upload the JPEG in the photo step of your Global Passport Seva application.
A note on "unaltered by computer software"
The guidelines say photos should not be altered by software. PersonPhoto only replaces the background and straightens and crops the photo. It never retouches your face. Acceptance is always decided by the mission, so if you're unsure, ask them or use a studio photo.
Applying in India?
Applicants at Passport Seva Kendras in India usually have their photo taken at the appointment. Check your appointment instructions. Printed passport-size photos are still needed for many other forms, visas and exams; see the Indian passport photo size guide.
